Frequently Asked Questions

MBAA

What is the difference between https://www.uwfostermbaa.com and https://www.fostereveningmbaa.com?

"UW Foster MBAA" is the MBA Association for the full-time MBA program. The "Foster Evening MBAA" is the MBA Association for the evening MBA program. Both associations have their own leadership board, who collaborate towards a common goal of enhancing the Foster MBA experience.

How do I serve on the MBAA leadership?

MBAA leadership terms start at the beginning of spring quarter and run through the end of the following winter quarter. Elections are held during winter quarter, and current 1st and 2nd year evening students can apply.

What is the difference between EVP and VP position?

Executive Vice President(EVP)  members, along with the President, are part of the executive council. They lead sub-committees that consist of Vice Presidents (VP) and Class Representatives.

What is the best way to get in touch with the Evening MBAA?

Fill out the form on this page or send an email to embaa@uw.edu

How do I park on campus?

The N1 and N5 lots are closest to PACCAR and Founders hall. If they fill up, the Central Parking Plaza (C1-C6) is another good option. Save 50% on parking by logging into the Customer Portal at https://transportation.uw.edu/park with your UW ID.  Note that parking on Sunday is free. Also, if you end up parking in a different lot than the one you paid for, you will not get a ticket.

What are ways to get to campus without driving?

The light rail is a great way to get to campus and not have to worry about traffic. U-District Station on The Ave is a 5-minute walk to class. There are several light rail stations that have parking including Northgate, Roosevelt, and Rainier Beach.

What time are classes?

Core classes for 1st and 2nd year students are from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, with a 10 minute break from 7:40pm to 7:50pm between classes. Additionally, there will often be optional events held by the MBA Program Office and career workshops from 5:00pm to 5:50pm right before class.

Slack

How do I join in on the conversations in slack?

All evening MBA cohorts are invited to the EVEMBAFOSTER workspace in Slack. Follow instructions here to get started!

What is the reason for MBAA adopting slack?

Slack makes it is easy to bring all 350+ candidates across class years into one place and conversations can be scaled up or muted in channels, threads, or direct messages. It is intended to be the primary tool to distribute official messages from the evening MBAA and program office.

Why can’t we just use tools that we already have such as Discord, WhatsApp, Facebook group or email?

Slack can help bridge the connection between the evening and full-time MBA cohorts. Specifically cohorts between programs can easily reach out and collaborate on club activities. The full-time MBA cohorts are already using Slack.

Are we expected to stop using other communication tools?

You are free to choose any other tools to communicate in addition to using Slack. In fact, you are encouraged to do so because Slack is only available for current UW Foster students. Once you have graduated, you will no longer have access to Slack, as of this writing. So, plan on staying in touch with other tools early!

Can I create a channel in slack?

Yes, you can create public or private channels for any topics relevant to your conversations. We kindly ask that you consider joining one that already exists before starting one up.

What is the code of conduct when using slack?

Communication in channels is not monitored or moderated. While we encourage communicating freely and openly in your conversations, you should observe common courtesies and be respectful of other individuals.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?

For questions or issues on using Slack, reach out to VP of Information Technology or Executive VP of Communications. For any other questions you are welcome to direct them to the President of MBAA.
